Trees for Tributaries Program in the Upper Susquehanna

Trees for TribsTrees for Tributaries Program provides Free Plants, Materials, and Technical Support to aid in reforesting New York’s Tributaries. The goal of this program is to create and plant Riparian or streamside buffers along our waterways that help decrease erosion, reduce flooding damage, improve wildlife and stream habitat, and protect our water quality.

If you are interested in Trees for Tributaries contact the USC or your local Soil and Water Conservation District to set up a site visit. We will help Plan, Coordinate and Organize your Buffer Planting.

Spring 2026 Trees for TributariesUSC Landuse Map

The Spring 2026 Trees for Tributaries Program Order Form is out! The deadline to send in the requested plants and their quantities for the program is Friday, April 17th. Plant species and quantity are subject to change based on availability and on a first come, first served basis.

The list of species that are available to order are listed below and in the Order Request Form. Please complete and submit the signed Application, along with a map of the planted area by Friday, June 19th.

Trees: Red Maple, Silver Maple, Sugar Maple, River Birch, Hackberry, Common Persimmon, Tulip Poplar, Black gum, American Sycamore, Eastern Cottonwood, Swamp White Oak, Pignut Hickory, Black Willow, Northern Red Oak ,White Pine.

Shrubs: Smooth Alder, Black Chokeberry, Button Bush, American Hazelnut, Silky Dogwood, Red Osier Dogwood, Smooth alder, Nine Bark, Elderberry, Arrowwood, Nannyberry, Black Haw.
